At Amity International School Amsterdam students will learn and inquire about the world around them through an inquiry-based curriculum. Our programme promotes the exploration of global and local issues through relevant and engaging inquiry. Our curriculum integrates learning in language, mathematics, science, ICT, social studies and the arts, as well as developing personal, social and physical education. At AISA we encourage children to take responsibility for their own learning and we challenge them to become active world citizens. The whole school community are actively involved in creating a holistic learning environment.
Music opens up a new door for communication and gives us an opportunity to express ourselves. Through song, musical composition and games, students will discover the elements of music and build their musical understanding. Playing in the band, students will be invited to develop their skills as team players and independent thinkers. Students will experience music as they investigate its principles through experiments and identify the music around us. They will create and recreate sounds in hands-on activities and construct their own musical instruments. Finally, they will explore the world of expressive dance. Together we will rediscover the world through the colours of music.
Physical Education creates well-rounded, healthy individuals through a variety of activities, movements and sports and opens their eyes to the benefits of an active lifestyle. At AISA, students will not only focus on improving their locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative skills, but also on promoting and developing knowledge, skills and attitudes that lead to actions that contribute to their overall well-being. Moreover, they are encouraged to adopt attributes during sports and games, which help them to become well-rounded individuals.
AISA recognises that students whose mother tongue is not English may require additional support. We identify where EAL support is required based on the student’s language profile and previous educational experience. We encourage our students to aim for the highest possible standards, and take into account each student’s individual needs and experiences. We strive to create a truly multicultural environment in which students are able to enjoy, appreciate, and value each other’s cultures.
